Glenmere Park in Greeley CO is more than just a park. This is a historic landmark and home to one of the most popular dog parks in Northern Colorado. It’s an acreage that includes both developed and undeveloped areas with plenty of walking trails throughout. Lots of open space for your dog. There is also a paved trail that leads up to the green belt.
There are grassy areas for playing fetch and open fields to run free. There is also a small dog area with agility courses. It’s a great place to take your pets out on the town and meet the community of dogs in Greeley.
This park is mostly maintained by volunteers but the city does chip in to keep up some of the landscaping and other projects around the park. They even have events throughout the year that bring pet-lovers together, like a fairytale-themed night for Halloween or an Easter egg hunt fundraiser.
The main loop called “Prospector Park” has water fountains along with it that are accessed through automatic drinking fountains every half-mile or so. These are nice because you don’t have to bring your own water.
The other main loop is called “Glenmere Park” and has a gazebo in the middle of it with seating and plenty of shade, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy the day (and your dog). A lot of people do picnics here.
There are picnic tables spread out throughout both areas as well. Some are located at strategic points for easy access to both loops – others are just hidden away under trees for more secluded spots to have a quiet lunch or dinner with friends. It’s really nice that they covered these picnic tables with concrete because most parks don’t give thought to these things.
More than a few weddings have taken place right there on the grassy green lawn in front of the gazebo.
It’s a great place to be if you’re looking for an afternoon adventure on a Saturday afternoon. It’s one of the hidden gems in Greeley that most people don’t even know exists – and it has been here since 1906.
